A malar or cheekbone lift is performed in selected patients, but rarely on its own and usually combined with either a facelift or brow lift. Performing this operation in combination with other procedures is necessary to provide longevity of the procedure.
The procedure is performed under sedation and local anaesthesia. A 1cm cut is made in the hair of the temple. Three or four permanent sutures are then placed deep to the skin to the soft tissue over the cheek bone to suspend the soft tissue in the cheekbone area. The skin wound is closed with sutures which are removed at 10 days.
