Facial Rejuvenation

A full facial rejuvenation will usually reverse the signs of aging by many years, improve facial expression and enhance facial attractiveness.

A facelift (incision in red, dissection in pink, elevation in green ... more) is the primary component of a full facial rejuvenation. I will almost always do a neck liposuction not just to remove excess fat, which later serves as useful graft material for volume correction, but also as a useful and relatively gentle way of dissecting the neck. I may also carry the liposuction up into the face, especially the jowl area and above the nasolabial folds to reduce excessive volume in these areas (pale yellow).

Volume enhancement is achieved with fat grafts (lipostructure, fat fills), especially to the mouth and lower lids, the naso-labial fold and the down lines from the mouth (marionette lines). Other areas that may be treated with fat grafts include the chin crease and the crease under the chin, frown lines, temples or any other areas lacking in volume (dark yellow).

As you age, your brows may have dropped due to gravity or may have been pulled higher due to the reflex activity of the forehead muscles. At consultation I will discuss optimal brow position for you and might suggest a brow lift or botox (or both) to improve the appearance of the upper face.

Your upper lids may be heavy, giving you a tired appearance. At consultation, I will discuss the pros and cons of a brow lift vs. and upper blepharoplasty and will make sugestions as to what might help your face most.

Lower lids may exhibit a variety of problems: the skin may be crepey and wrinkled, there may be fat bulges or tear trough hollows and there may be other signs of aging. Lower lid rejuvenation has changed a lot in recent years. At consultation I will help you identify the problems in your lower lids and make suggestions as to the surgical manouvres which would help in eliminating the signs of aging.

A malar lift will lift the skin in the cheekbone area.

I tend to be sparing with skin resurfacing techniques as these techniques all thin the skin thus accelerating the natural skin thinning which occurs as the face ages. I therefore usually restrict skin resurfacing to light or moderate peels around the mouth.

Botox and fillers compliment the surgery and allow further maintenance to be performed as necessary.

Every face is unique and while there are patterns of facial aging (gravitational descent, volumetric changes, skin changes), these might have affected your face very differently from the previous patient's. At consultation I will be able to make suggestions and discuss the pros and cons of the various options with you so that we can form a uniquely tailored and individual plan for your face.
