Prior to surgery all patients will undergo a formal, face-to-face consultation with me, your surgeon. We will discuss your problem, your medical and surgical history and what your hopes and expectations are. You will undergo a clinical examination by me to determine your suitability for surgery and which operation or group of operations would benefit you most. Photographs form a routine part of the examination. Not only are they an important part of the medical record, but they serve as a visual aid to further discussion. I use digital photographs which I put up on the computer immediately for you to see. Following history, examination and the taking of the clinical photographs, I like to sit with the patients and discuss the surgical options. The discussion will focus on: > the operation(s) you are suited for and the alternatives, Often this discussion is split into two consultations. Questions are encouraged. I believe that forewarned is forearmed and patients who understand their surgery are likely to sail through more easily. Following the discussion, the surgery date will be booked or confirmed, consent is taken and you will be advised of the practical arrangements for surgery. |
